    Description:
Portrait of the first Puerto Rican-born bishop, standing in a Rococo style room with elaborate furniture. Bishop Arizmendi de la Torre wears ecclesiastical robes including a biretta on his head. He holds an unfinished basket in his proper right hand which he is in the process of weaving. He holds the end of the material in his proper left hand. There are two finished baskets on the tiled floor. This is an allusion to St. Julian, Bishop of Cuenca, who used to support himself by weaving baskets after donating his bishop's salary to the poor. The painting also has a reference to the bishop's own baptism.
