    School-girl painting depicting a winding river with a man seated on the shore under a blasted tree in the foreground, his left hand extended as he gives directions to a traveler standing in front of him. The traveler carries a knapsack on his back and leans against a long walking stick. Nearby a dog frolics along the shore, and out on the water two figures are visible in a rowboat. In the distance, along the near shore, a stone tower is visible with two figures standing nearby. In the far distance, there is a log cabin with smoke pouring from its chimney.
