    Kansas sunflower stands on a low, flat base. It is in full bloom with two layers of petals and a rough-hewn stem.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was designed by Robert Rose, and carved by members of the Kansas Sculptors Association. The sculpture was a gift of the Kansas Sculptors Association and Bayer Stone, Inc. in honor of the Kansas Department of Transportation's 125th anniversary. The sculpture was created in conjunction with the 1986 Stone Symposium held by Bayer Stone and the Kansas Sculptors Association. IAS files contain pertinent correspondence from State officials and the Association, and a KDOT press release, May 6, 1987.
