    Provenance:
Formerly located Old City Hall, 14th & Larimer Streets, bell tower, Denver, Colorado 1906-1946.
    Remarks:
This bell was installed in the bell tower of Denver's old City Hall in 1906, to replace the original bell which was destroyed by fire in 1901. The bell remained in the bell tower until most of the building was razed in 1946. The bell was saved from destruction, and in 1953, it was mounted on a concrete base on the site of the old City Hall. Lester Moorman was contractor for the 1953 installation. IAS files contain copies of newspaper articles from Rocky Mountain News, May 10, 1935, pg. 9, which includes historical information about both the old and the new bells; Rocky Mountain News, Nov. 12, 1946, pg. 5, which discusses plans for razing the old City Hall building and the unknown fate of the bell, and includes a photograph of the bell in the bell tower; and Rocky Mountain News, Jan. 6, 1953, pg. 16-17, which discusses and includes a photograph of the reinstallation. IAS files also contain numerous newspaper articles and unpublished archival material pertaining to the history of the old City Hall building itself.
