    Remarks: 
    Thomas Pinckney Alston was the son of Colonel William Alston and Mary Brewton Motte of All Saints Parish, Waccamaw, Georgetown, South Carolina. He studied law but returned to plantation life as a planter. He was first married to Jane Ladson Smith; after her death, he married her sister, Susan Elizabeth Smith; they had ten children. NSCDA also reported that the portrait is attributed to an amateur named Moore or Moores.
