The sculpture is owned by Josephine H. Brandon and has been in her family since the 1800s. It once belonged to her great grandfather, Atharates Atkinson (1815-1892), a marble dealer in Madison, Georgia. IAS files contain a letter from sculptor Robert E. Launitz (of Monument Works in New York) to Mr. Atkinson, dated August 13, 1869, which may pertain to the sculpture. The sculpture was temporarily exhibited at the Atlanta Historical Society in a show on the history of Georgia gardens.
