    Remarks:
The sculpture was purchased by library board member Paul Curran, during a visit to Quincy. Dick Rizoli, a Milford local car dealer, provided the funding and donated the sculpture to the new library. A "name-the-statue" contest for Milford Elementary School children resulted in the name of Dewey, after Melvil Dewey, the American librarian and founder of the decimal system of classification. Dewey married Annie Roberts Godfrey, Milford librarian, Oct. 19, 1879. IAS files contain a related article from the Milford Daily News, July 31, 1986. and Boston Globe, April 5, 1986, pg. 11.
