    Description: 
    Three heroic, classical figures are grouped on the south portico of the Monroe County Courthouse. The central female holds a torch in her raised proper right hand and reaches out with her proper left hand. To her proper right, a kneeling female holds a tablet in her proper left hand. Her proper right arm is extended at her side and probably once held a writing implement that is now missing. To the proper left of the central female is a loosely draped, kneeling male holding a cartouche with his proper right hand and resting his proper left hand on his left knee.

    Remarks: 
    Sculptor Albert Molnar, Sr. used his wife as a model for the center female. One of the figure's hands fell off at some point and local artist Dugan Eigar created a new hand for the figure during the Bicentennial. The sculpture was renovated in 1984. IAS files contain a newspaper article from the Herald-Telephone, Oct. 25, pg. 14.
