    Description: 
    A circular space containing three curved slabs of steel, each with a geometric shape cut out of the center. The three slabs are placed around a circular steel base which has a large granite stone on top.

    Remarks: 
    Funded with a National Endowment for the Arts, Art in Public Places grant of $26,000 given in 1985 to Winston-Salem State University. Additional funding was provided by former trustee Gordon Hanes. The sculpture's form was inspired by architectural remains from the kingdom of Zimbabwe. Po Tolo is the Dogon word for the star Sirius B. IAS files contain a copy of Jean E. Feinberg's exhibition catalog, "Bertoia, Buchanan, Edwards and Mitchell: Sculpture Update," Winston-Salem: Diggs Gallery, 1991 and a Winston-Salem State University sculpture garden brochure.
