    Remarks:
The sculpture was installed by the citizens of Toccoa to honor native son and Olympic gold medalist, Paul Anderson. He won his medal in the super heavyweight weight lifting division in 1956. Upon hearing that Anderson was stricken with Bright's disease and in need of a kidney transplant, friends and community members raised enough money for the transplant and to erect the sculpture marking his birthplace and honoring him. Anderson, who was known as the "World's Strongest Man," set a Guinness Book World Record by lifting 6,270 pounds in a backlift, the greatest weight ever lifted by a human being. He was also the founder of the Paul Anderson Youth Homes for Homeless and Troubled Teenagers.
The sculpture was designed by Ed Mims and carved by Willie Simmons of the Supreme Granite Company in Elberton, Georgia and Sweet City Quarries.
