Description:
Full-length figure of a uniformed Spanish American War soldier stands at attention on a tiered base. His rifle is held at his proper right side with the butt on the ground. Decorative relief elements on the base include a cavalry saddle, rifle and sword topped with drapery and then with an eagle, shield and olive branch.

Remarks:
Erected in memory of Roy V. Cashion, a native of Hennessey, Oklahoma who was killed during the Spanish American War. The State of Oklahoma allocated $1,800 and $800 was raised through public subscription. Nearby plaque placed by the Oklahoma Historical Society reads: ROY V. CASHION/1st Okla. Vol. U. S. Cavalry/After his regiment helped in the/victory at Las Quasimas, Cuba,/he was killed as he charged over San Juan Hill, July 1, 1898, in the Spanish-American War./This Oklahoma boy--Hennessey High School graduate--rode horse-/back to Guthrie, and enlisted on May 5, 1898 in "Rough Riders"/under Col. Theodore Roosevelt./OKLAHOMA HISTORICAL SOCIETY AND STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION
