Description:
A Civil War soldier standing at parade rest. He wears a uniform consisting of a thigh-length jacket, a round-bottomed pouch carried at the proper right side with a shoulder strap over the proper left shoulder, a large square pouch at the back waist area, a bayonet attached to belt at proper left side, and a "slouch" cap. The mustached figure holds the barrel of a rifle with both hands. The butt of the gun rests on the plinth at his feet. The base is tiered; the middle section is topped by a tapered shaft with crossed swords on the front and crossed flags on the sides.

IAS files contain related articles from Daily Echo (Moundsville, WV) May 29, 1909, pg. 1 and May 31, 1909, pg. 1. The monument was erected by Marshall County at a cost of $5,000. Originally at the base of the monument, on either side, were two mounted field pieces, donated by the U.S. Government.
