    Description: 
    A full-length figure of a uniformed Union soldier stands at parade rest atop a square pedestal and tiered lower base. He has a moustache and wears winter uniform, including a cap and long coat. He holds his rifle vertically at chest level with both hands, the stock resting by his proper right foot. An ammunition pouch is on his back proper right hip. The gabled pedestal is decorated with a star, and coat-of-arms surrounded by Union Army Corps badges at each corner, for Corps II, III, V, and VI.

    Remarks: 
    The monument commemorates the Civil War soldiers of Gilbertsville. Gilbertsville soldiers fought in Union Army Corps II, III, V, and VI at Gettysburg. The movement to erect the monument began Memorial Day, 1886. The cost was $1,400, with $1,000 appropriated by the Town Board and the remainder raised through public subscription. The monument was delivered on Aug. 15, 1888. The monument's foundation was funded by the W. A. Musson Post, GAR (Grand Army of the Republic). IAS files contain related excerpt from Ostego Journal.
