The sculpture and fountain were a gift to the town of Center Harbor from Herbert Dumaresq, a wealthy merchant from Boston who owned a nearby summer estate. Robert Judge did the plumbing; Tom Lacey, the irrigation work. and Meredith Gardens, the surrounding landscaping.
In the late 1980's the town formed a committee to oversee the restoration of the fountain. Restoration work included installing a new circulating water system, raising the fountain 18 inches, surrounding the fountain with granite curbing and replacing a cracked granite foundation. The restored sculpture and fountain were rededicated on July 4, 1991.
