Formerly administered by Liberty Hill Independent School District, Liberty Hill High School, P. O. Box 332, Highway 29 at Loop 332, Liberty Hill, Texas 78642
Formerly located Veteran's Park, Corner of Myrtle & Main Street, Liberty Hill, Texas
Remarks:
The sculpture was created as part of an International Sculpture Symposium, organized by local sculptor Mel Fowler to commemorate the United States Bicentennial. Twenty-three sculptors were invited to participate. The sculptures were originally installed at Veterans Park (Myrtle & Main Streets). Because they were subject to vandalism over the years, they were moved in 1987 to their current site at Liberty Hill High School. IAS files contain transcription of a nearby plaque which provides biography of Mel Fowler and gives history of the sculpture garden.
IAS files also contain related articles from The Independent dated April 25, 1991, pg. 7-14 and July 11, 1991, pg. 9; a pamphlet "International Sculpture Garden," Liberty Hill, TX: Liberty Hill High School, n.d.; and excerpt from Bette Redman Reichman, ed., "Sculpture in Austin," Austin, TX: University of Texas at Austin, College of Fine Arts, 1989, pg. 17.
