    Description: 
    An eight-foot wide circular water fountain basin with a tall granite shaft in the center. At the top of the shaft there once was a 1000 watt nitrogen light. The fountain was originally erected as a watering trough for horses, but now it is used as a planter.

    Remarks: 
    The fountain was originally erected in Danvers Square in 1915 by the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) in honor of the Revolutionary soldiers of Danvers. In 1925, the fountain was struck by a car and was then moved to Plains Park where is was again damaged. It was taken to the town dump, but was rescued by the D.A.R. who petitioned the Town of Danvers to bring the fountain to their headquarters at the Judge Samuel Holten House in 1932. IAS files contain a copy of the Massachusetts Historical Commission Form F - Object questionnaire dated Sept. 1994.
