    Description: 
    Full-length uniformed figure of General Newton Martin Curtis stands on a pedestal and base. The figure wears a full beard, wide-brimmed hat and cape. His proper right arm and the cape are thrown over his proper left shoulder and he leans on a sword held in his proper left hand. There is a State Seal in relief on the front of the pedestal and a battle scene relief on the rear.

    Remarks: 
    Erected by the State of New York for $6,000, the monument is a gift of the New York Monuments Commission. General Curtis, a native of DePeyster, New York, served in the Civil War and also as a New York State Assemblyman and United States Congressman. The site on which the sculpture stands was originally part of federal post office grounds; but the post office building was sold in 1991. The monument was sandblasted in the 1960s.
