Description:
Benjamin Rush Milam steps forward with his proper right leg and he raises a rifle above his head in his proper right hand. He originally held a scroll in his proper left clenched fist. He has a moustache and wears a shirt and an unbuttoned jacket. There is a pouch at his belt and his shirt-sleeves are rolled up above the elbows. The sculpture is mounted on a multi-sided pedestal, which is placed on a two-tiered rectangular base.

Remarks:
Benjamin Rush Milam (1788-1835), was born in Frankfort, Kentucky. He was a soldier in the War of 1812; a colonel in the Tres Palacios expedition in 1820; a Texas colonizer, 1826-1835; and first navigator up the Red River, 1831. He died while commanding the Texas forces that later captured San Antonio. The sculpture was installed by the State of Texas, with funds appropriated by the federal government to commemorate the Texas centennial.
