    Owner:
Texas State Capitol, 1200 North Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas
    Remarks:
The sculpture was originally installed on the new state capitol dome in 1888. Reports differ on who the artist may have been. SOS! survey lists architect Elijah E. Myers as the designer; John C. MacFarland (Chicago), as the subcontractor. Index of American Sculpture records say the sculpture was made by Otto Johnson and installed by Gustave Johnson. Belgian herman Vasshart is also alleged to have made the sculpture. It was cast at a foundry located on state capitol grounds. The sculpture was removed from atop the Capitol on Nov. 24, 1985 for restoration work by University Technology Assoc., Inc., and was reinstalled indoors in the north lobby of the Capitol. A replica (IAS record TX000637) was cast in 1986 by Dell Ray Foundry for use on the Capitol Dome.
