    Remarks:
The stones were originally stair posts on the two main entrances for the old Helena High School (built around 1891). When the old school was demolished in 1976, the stones were salvaged and sited in Lazy Green Park as a project celebrating the Bicentennial. The park was designed by landscape architect Richard Mayer, with the help of Helena Junior High students, at a cost of $25,200. Nine benches of simulated gray stone made from recycled plastic were added in front of the sculpture in 1991 with the help of landscape architect Paul Valle to create an "environmental classroom." IAS files contain a project brochure and articles from the Independent Record, Oct. 31, 1974 and Nov. 9, 1991.
