Description:
A marble figure of an older man wearing a traditional GAR uniform with membership badge and hat. He stands atop a marble shaft, his right arm resting at his waist, his right foot forward slightly. The front of the marble shaft is adorned with a relief carving of the GAR membership badge consisting of a star-shaped medal suspended from a flag ribbon with an eagle pin at the top.

Remarks:
The monument cost $1,200 and was erected by the A. W. Dodge Post No. 44, Department of Maryland, Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) in memory of the member of the post. IAS files contain copies of articles from: Baltimore American, Sept. 24, 1898; Nov. 24, 1898; Nov. 25, 1898; May 30, 1899; May 31, 1903; and May 31, 1907 and Baltimore Sun, Nov. 24, 1898; Nov. 25, 1898; and May 29, 1899. IAS files also include an excerpt from Susan Cooke Soderberg's "Lest We Forget" (White Mane Publishing Co.,1995), pg. 45.
