    Remarks:
This Civil War monument was originally sited in Bay View Park (also known as Sea View Park) in an area bounded by Fifth & Sixth Streets and Howard & Hallock Avenues. Four canons were originally placed around the base of the statue. IAS files contain articles from the New Haven Journal and Courier (July 11, 1950), New Haven Register (July 10, 1950), and the New Haven Journal and Courier (May 17, 1950) discussing the movement of the monument to make way for U.S. Route One. C. W. Blakeslee & Company was responsible for the move. The figure and pedestal were moved separately and reassembled on July 10, 1950. The monument commemorates a regiment primarily made up of Irish-Americans. Total cost of the monument was $4,500. The Ninth Regiment Veterans Association raised $3,500 by subscription; an additional $1,000 was provided by the State of Connecticut. Photographs on file with IAS include a reproduction of a 1910 postmarked postcard of the monument.
