    Description: 
    Three granite inscription panels installed side by side with a small panel standing in front. The middle panel is incised with a map of Korea and flags of the United States, Korea, and the United Nations. The side panels are incised with insignia for the Air Force, Marines, Army, and Navy. The small panel standing in front is a memorial to the men killed in a train accident while returning from training in Ohio.

    Remarks: 
    The memorial honors Luzerne County men and women who served during the Korean War. The Korean War Veterans of Wyoming Valley commissioned the Barre Granite Company of Vermont to create the memorial that was designed by the Korean War Veterans finance officer, Robert Mattern. The memorial cost $24,000 which was financed through local contributions. IAS files contain newspaper articles from Citizens' Voice, Jan. 18, 1990, pg. 4; and July 9, 1990.
