    Remarks:
This statue was proposed by L. S. Hough, who raised funds for it by subscription. The statue stood outside on the cupola of the two story brick courthouse of Monongalia County from Aug. 20, 1851 until the building was torn down in 1890. The sculpture was then stored in various places over the years, including the Morgantown Public Library. On Oct. 8, 1976, it was placed inside the Monongalia County Courthouse. IAS files contain a related article from Core, Earl L., "The Monongalia Story, Vol. III," Parsons, WV: McClain Printing Co., 1979, pg. 308 & 360, which includes a historical photograph of the sculpture installed on the cupola of the courthouse.
IAS files contain a transcription of extensive text on plaque located beside sculpture, which gives summary of Patrick Henry's life and history of sculpture.
