    Description:
A pioneer farmer is represented by thin, steel bars which form a linear frame of a body. The figure wears a hat, and stands behind a walking plow. He leans forward, hands grasping the plow and proper left leg steps up and forward, as if he were walking. The figure and plow stand on top of a welded steel platform, which is atop a brick base. On each side of the brick base is a granite plaque.
The 1st plaque has a picture of Mary Ellen Merrill and a locomotive, representing that Ellendale was named after Merrill, and the importance of the railroad in the founding of the city. The 2nd has a picture of the statue of liberty, and honors veterans who served the U.S. in war. The 3rd plaque depicts three horse-drawn covered wagons with the words Dickey County Pioneers. The 4th has a North Dakota Centennial emblem along with the words Ellendale Centennial 1882-1982, honoring both centennials.
