    Description: 
    A standing portrait of General Casimir Pulaski is mounted on a granite base before a rectangular backdrop flanked by low side walls. He is seen in military dress and wears a full cape draped back over his shoulders. He holds his scabbard by his side with his proper left hand while his proper right hand reaches across to grab the handle. On the figure's proper right is an incised eagle with its wings spread, clutching foliage; and on the figure's proper left side is a bird representing the Polish Coat of Arms.

    Remarks: 
    The monument commemorates Revolutionary War hero Count Casimir Pulaski and it was erected by the Pulaski Monument Committee of the Polish Welfare Council of Schenectady, New York. The monument cost $15,000, and the foundation cost $4,175. Funding was obtained from contributions by Polish-American organizations and citizens of Polish descent, and from a $2,000 contribution authorized by the City of Schenectady by Ordinance 12205, passed on Oct. 13, 1953. The monument was designed and copyrighted by Charles N. Gardner & Sons of Schenectady. Angelo Bardelli assisted the artist. The monument was dedicated on the fifth anniversary of the naming of the site as Pulaski Plaza. IAS files contain: dedication program; news clippings from the Schenectady Gazette, Dec. 22, 1952 to Nov. 16, 1953; Schenectady Union-Star, Dec. 17, 1952, Dec. 20, 1952, Sept. 2, 1953, pg. 7, Nov. 10, 1953 (listing base media as marble); a flyer entitled "A Short History of the Pulaski Monument."
