Description:
The environmental sculpture consists of wildflowers (symbolizing fertility of Flower City) with two timber pylons (symbol of Civilization) near the center, encompassed by a band of black walnut seedlings. Wide paths (representing Rochester's technology) cut through the flowers and intersect at two places near the center. Two circles of slag cinders mark the golden mean points in each pathway, from opposing directions.

Remarks:
The sculpture was funded with a $5,000 arts grant from Rochester Sesquicentennial Inc. The seeds were donated by Harris Seeds, Rochester, New York and the Monroe County Soil and Water Conservation Board of Directors. IAS files contain the artist's statement and proposal, the grant contract, lists of the plantings within the site and pertinent correspondence, including letters of support for the work from 1985 when the site was under consideration for dismantlement by hospital officials.
