Description:
Full-length portrait of Simon Bolivar dressed in brocaded military uniform jacket with epaulets, cape and boots. He holds a sword in his proper left hand, with point downward. He stands atop a platform covered with stones set in red-colored mortar. Four spotlights light the sculpture.

Text on plaza platform on which sculpture mounted: CASIELLES ASOCIADOS S.A./MARIO BEMERGUI ARCHITECTS/ABEL VALLMITJAN/SCULPTOR/ERECTED NOVEMBER 1957 (To right of sculpture, when approaching from Canal Street:) VENEZUELA/A/NEUYA ORLEAN (sic) (Venezuelan (?) Coat of Arms) 19 DE ABRIL DE 1810 20 DE FEBRERO 1859/INDEPENDENCIA FEDERACION/REPUBLICA DE VENEZUELA.

According to a Times-Picayune article July 25, 1985, the sculpture was "recently refurbished." Additional unpublished information related to the memorial is on file at the Historic New Orleans Collection, the Tulane University Library (Louisiana collections); and the New Orleans Public Library (Louisiana collection).
