    Description: 
    Full-length figure of a uniformed World War I soldier stands on the central element of a triptych-like base. The figure is bare-headed and looking down at a cross grave marker. His proper right hand holds a laurel branch and rests on the cross. He holds his rifle by the barrel against the opposite side of the cross. Four steps lead to the piece. Two plaques on the front list names of Augusta citizens who died in World War I and three plaques at the rear list names of Augusta citizens who served. The Seal of the City of Augusta appears on the left front plaque and the Seal of the State of Maine appears on the right front plaque.

    Remarks: 
    Gift of Mr. & Mrs. George E. Macomber in honor of the some 700 citizens of Augusta who served in World War I. The granite for the base was quarried in Stonington, Maine. IAS files include related articles from the Portland Evening Express, Nov. 11, 1929 and the Lewiston Journal, Dec. 7, 1929.
