Chief Fallon, (sculpture). Artist:  Loran, Cornelius B., sculptor. Title:  Chief Fallon, (sculpture). Dates:  Late 1920s or early 1930s. Inscription:  unsigned Description:  Head of Chief Fallon is set into a large stump of petrified wood which serves as a full headdress. Subject:  Portrait male -- Fallon, Chief -- Head Ethnic -- Indian Abstract Object Type:  Outdoor Sculpture -- Montana -- Baker Sculpture Owner:  Fallon County, County Commission, 10 West Fallon Avenue, Baker, Montana 59313 Remarks:  Created from a stump of petrified wood found in the Badlands of eastern Montana by Pat Crow, then County Custodian, in the mid 1920s or early 1930s. The sculpture was moved in 1974 to accommodate construction of a new courthouse, and cracked in the process. It was repaired in Sept. 1979 by Darold Brown, then County Custodian. He used concrete to repair the cracks in the headdress. IAS files include a letter from a County official and an excerpt from the book, "Golden Jubilee," which commemorates the 50th anniversary of Baker.
