    Remarks:
The monument was funded by Virgil M. Pinkley who made a substantial gift in 1980 to be devoted to a statue of Eisenhower. A special Eisenhower Monument Committee was established and the West Point Fund Committee was appointed to raise the necessary additional funds for the monument. The final cost of the monument amounted to approximately $300,000, an amount which was raised through the contributions of over 1,200 individuals. The sculptor's model was approved in April 1981, and in late 1982 the full-size model was approved and the molds were shipped to the foundry in Montecatini Term outside of Florence, Italy. Douglas Logan designed the granite portion of the monument. IAS files contain an excerpt from "History of the Monument;" a newspaper article from Pointer View (May 6, 1983), pg. 4; and a United States Military Academy fact sheet.
