Description:
A large boulder with two bronze plaques attached. The first plaque contains a relief bust of John A. "Snowshoe" Thompson with short hair and a beard. Text surrounds the figure. The second plaque contains commemorative text.

Remarks:
John A. "Snowshoe" Thompson (1827-1876) delivered mail on skis during the winter months to Carson Valley. He also rescued lost travelers in the Sierra Mountains. The monument was suggested by Eudora Caroutte and installed by the founders of Carthay Center. IAS files contain additional information.
