Description:
"Two free-standing pedestal fountains on either side of the penguin grouping. There are three penguins, in varying positions of outstretched wings, on the East, West and South of a Spanish 'clover-leaf' area of paved brick...The basins of each fountain are quatrefoil in shape and constructed of red stone. Each fountain has two basins, an upper and lower, which flow into one another. The lower, larger basin is supported by three griffins, placed back to back. Figures of dolphins are featured between the griffins. Each of the basins is scalloped."

Remarks:
Cast posthumously. IAS files contain copies from Sherry Piland and Ellen J. Uguccioni, "Fountains of Kansas City: A History and Love Affair," Kansas City, MO: City of Fountains Foundation, 1985, pg. 270-272; and press release from the J. C. Nichols Company which discusses the remodeling of the area which occasioned the installation of the Court of the Penguins Fountain. Illustration on pg. 271 of Piland and Uguccioni's "Fountains of Kansas City" only shows one fountain and its basin; image on file in IAS only shows penguins.
In 2004, Kansas City Adopt A Monument reported that all sculptures owned by the J. C. Nichols company should be changed to Highwoods Property.
