    Description: 
    Full-length bas-relief portrait of David Crockett. He wears buckskin clothing including fringed tunic. He holds a rifle barrel with his proper right hand; the butt of the gun rests on the ground beside his proper right foot. His proper left hand is resting on his belt. He gazes off to the proper right. The relief sculpture covers the top two-thirds of the front face of a tall pink granite shaft. The shaft stands in the center of a long, stepped horizontal granite base.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was funded through the Texas Centennial Commission as part of the state appropriation to celebrate the centennial of Texas. Cost of the sculpture was $7,500. The granite for the sculpture was taken from Marble Falls, TX. The sculpture was designed by architect Donald Nelson, sculpted by McVey and carved by Leonarduzi. IAS files contain copy of related article from Ozona Stockman, Aug. 19, 1992.
