    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was created by an individual known only as "Leck" or "Luck" who created the sculpture when passing through Iowa Falls ca. 1935. It was restored in 1976 as a Bicentennial project of the City and local schools. Nearby plaque reads: CHIEF BLACKHAWK/MA-KA-THA-ME-SHE-KIA-KIAK/1767-1838/BLACKHAWK WAS BORN AT THE (FORK?) OF ROCK RIVER IN ILLINOIS. HE/BECAME CHIEF OF HIS TRIBE IN 1786. SAUX AND FOX TRIBES AGREED IN 1804 TO GIVE/THE UNITED STATES THEIR LAND EAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER BUT BLACKHAWK/REFUSED TO ACCEPT THE CONTRACT. AFTER YEARS OF FIGHTING AGAINST THE WHITE/MAN HE SURRENDERED. HE DIED ON A RESERVATION NEAR DES MOINES IOWA ON OCT. 31. 1838. IAS files include an excerpt from "The History of Iowa Falls, 1900-1950," by I. A. Nichols.
