Six sheep and three lambs are scattered in a grassy area about 90 x 43 feet located at the base of Magnolia Slope. Two of the sheep are grazing with their noses in the grass and the others are standing erect. The animals are cut out of flat pieces of Cor-Ten steel which has weathered naturally to a rusty appearance. The animals' legs are set directly in the ground with no visible base.

The sculpture was commissioned in 1980 by the art patrons Philip and Muriel Berman specifically for the Morris Arboretum. The SOS! survey notes that the sculpture was created in 1980, but the survey cover sheet notes the execution date as 1981.
