    Description: 
    A broken egg from which emerge two hands cradling the space shuttle Challenger. The shuttle is held as if ascending into the atmosphere --the proper right hand supporting the rear of the shuttle and the proper left hand supporting the nose of the shuttle.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture is a joint project of the seventh and eighth graders in Warren Loeffler's science class who worked with art teacher, Calvin Hubbard, and student teacher Leslie Want to build this memorial to the space shuttle's crew. IAS files contain articles from the East High newsletter, March 1987; Democrat and Chronicle (Rochester, NY), Jan. 28, 1987, pg. 8A; and the Times-Union (Rochester, NY), Jan. 28, 1987, 8B; and the dedication brochure.
