    Description: 
    Full-length figure of a Union soldier. He wears a uniform, cap and overcoat. He holds the barrel of a rifle with both hands; the butt of the gun rests on the ground in front of him. He has a moustache. The granite sculpture stands on a granite base. The base has a moulded top followed by a die with rounded corners and moulded cornice and ending in three steps.

    The monument was funded by the town. Cost of the monument was $1,969.85. The monument was contracted to Larson & Carlson; the bronze plaques were cast by Paul E. Cabaret & Company. IAS files contain transcriptions of honor roll names listed on plaques. IAS files contain copy of related excerpt from "Annual Report of the Town of Hopkinton", 1917, pg. 18-19; and from David Ruell's unpublished manuscript "The Public Sculpture of New Hampshire", Concord: New Hampshire Historical Society, 1980, pg. 102-103.
