    Description: 
    Bas-relief concrete seal of Dartmouth College affixed to the facade of a library building. The scene on the shield-shaped seal depicts a multi-storey building with cupola on the right. In front is a garden. Approaching the building on the left are several Native Americans. A pine tree stands on the far left and beams of light shine from the upper left corner. On each side of the shield of the seal is a male figure wearing medieval-style clothing. They represent Religion and Justice. Decorative oak leaf foliage encompasses the bottom of the seal, ending at the feet of each figure.

    Remarks: 
    The original Dartmouth College Seal was designed by Nathaniel Hurd of Boston and adopted in 1773. Architect Jens Larson designed the bas-relief sculpture of the seal for the new library building. The library and seal were dedicated in 1927. Cost of the sculpture was $2,359. IAS files contain copy of related contract and architectural drawing.
