Port side view of the steamer Manistee underway in heavy seas. The support arch across midship section of vessel is marked "Lake Superior South Shore Line." There is an American flag with 15 stripes and 29 stars flying at the stern. A flag flying on the forward mast is marked "Manistee." There are two miniature portraits in ovals, one in each upper corner of the painting. These are evidently the ship's officers. The figure on the left has a moustache and the figure on the right has a beard.
