    Description: 
    A uniformed Civil War infantryman stands holding his rifle in front of him, the butt resting on the ground. He wears a knee-length overcoat and a cape that is pulled back on the proper right side of his chest. He wears a bayonet on his proper left side and a large pouch at his proper right rear hip. The sculpture is mounted on a block base of polished black granite with two lower steps.

    Remarks: 
    The monument cost approximately $800 and was installed in memory of all enlisted men from Alton, New Hampshire who died during the Civil War. Funds for the sculpture were raised by the M.H. Savage Post of the Grand Army of the Republic and the Women's Relief Corps. Private contributions included a substantial contribution by Henry W. Savage of Boston. The sculpture is attributed to the Monumental Bronze Company. The base was fabricated by Lamprey & Keniston of Laconia, New Hampshire.
