Commissioned by Mika Company at an approximate cost of $102,324, as part of the Percent for Art Public Art Program of the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA). Obelisk was installed 3 ft. away from location set down in plans, due to conflicts with electrical wiring. The CRA withheld its Certificate of Completion, pending the piece's reinstallment in the originally agreed upon spot. A bridge was built over the wires to accommodate the sculpture. IAS files contain an excerpt from the book "Little Tokyo: the Public Art of Los Angeles," part 2, by Michael Several; and site plans, information and correspondence from the CRDA files concerning this piece.
