Description:
Abstract installation set on a triangular base of crushed stone. In one corner stands a circular concave element attached to the top of a pole. Opposite this element stands a compass balanced on its two points. From the top of the compass hang two chains. A black bomb-shaped element hangs from one chain. An upright cone supporting a globe hangs from the other chain. The globe has a bas-relief of North America. The cone and globe are enclosed in an open horizontal frame supported by two legs. Off to one side, situated in another corner of the triangular base, is a half-cone lying on its side.

The sculpture represents an exploration of Newton's experimental philosophy. The sculpture was initially installed as part of the Alabama Biennial on the campus of the University of Alabama, 1991-1992. IAS files contain copy of related artist's statement.
