Formerly in the collection of de Plessis, de Mauduit, Marquise, France Remarks:  Thomas Antoine Mauduit DuPlessis was a French officer in the Continental Army. The painting is said to be a copy after a pastel by La Tour. It was purchased ca. 1906 from Albert Rosenthal, who had bought it in April 1905 from Marquise de Mauduit de Plessis, Hopital de Picpus, Paris.
