    Description:
A figure of a Civil War soldier stands at parade rest with his proper left leg forward, the toe of his boot extending outward beyond the base. The figure holds the upper of his rifle with both hands, proper left above proper right, the hands not quite touching. The figure's hands are not centered, but rather are placed up toward his proper left breast. The butt of the rifle is on the ground apparently in front of the proper right toe, with the trigger guard facing outward to the proper right. The soldier has a prominent full moustache, but is otherwise clean-shaven. He wears a brimmed cap and a cape unbuttoned at the neck. The upper outer portion of the cape is draped over his proper left arm. Around the cape is a belt with a bayonet in a scabbard attached at his proper left side, and a cartridge pouch at his proper right side. The sculpture also includes a small tree stump which adjoins the soldier's cape on the back proper left side.
The sculpture is placed atop an elaborate base with fountain pools extending out at the bottom on two sides. Metal lion's heads, encircled by wreaths, serve as water spouts. The front of the midsection of the base is decorated with polished gray granite Corinthian columns; the rear of the base with roughened edges has an inscription panel with polished letters. The base is placed atop a larger limestone slab, atop concrete. Four limestone steps lead up to the memorial. The vertical faces of the top two steps are inscribed.
