    Medium:

    Description:
The sculpture consists of a row of eighteen stainless steel tetrahedra that rest on a sixty-foot long steel I-beam. Under the steel beam are concrete posts submerged beneath five-foot high mounds of earth which are covered with myrtle. The mounds of earth, or berms, are set at intervals which repeat the theme of the library's serpentine wall. The tetrahedra symbolize cuneiforms which are the earliest known form of writing.

    Remarks:
The library's art committee, through meeting with the School Board, the Friends of Beachwood Library, the City Council, and the general public, proposed a $50,000 art budget. The funding came from interest on the 1979 library bond. David Davis was one of three Cleveland area artists selected and IAS files contain a copy of the artist's 1983 proposal for the sculpture. IAS files also contain related articles from the Library Journal (Dec. 1984): pg. 22-23 and the Plain Dealer (Cleveland, OH), Sept. 16, 1984. Inscription on plaque in front of sculpture reads: Bridge to Knowledge/by/David Davis/1984.
