    Description: 
    A mustached Union Civil War soldier stands at parade rest wearing a military uniform that includes a knee-length overcoat, a cape, and a cap. Hanging from his belt are an ammunition pack at the rear proper right side and a purse at his front proper right side. He holds the barrel of a rifle with both hands. The butt of the rifle rests near his proper right foot. The figure stands atop an inscribed multitiered base.

    Remarks: 
    The Union Civil War Memorial honors the citizens of Union who gave their lives during the Civil War. The figure atop the base was cut by hand on the top of Clarry Hill by James Dornan, his young son, and a neighbor, Greenwood Kelley. IAS files contain a partial transcription of names incised on base. IAS files contain a related excerpt from Maurice J. Warner's "Civil War Memorials Erected in the State of Maine," Augusta, Maine: Maine Civil War Centennial Commission, 1965, pg. 67.
