    The monument honors those who fought for and preserved freedom throughout the first two hundred years of the United States. The memorial was donated by the Carl McDermott Post, No. 31 of the American Legion; the American Legion Auxiliary Unit, No. 31; Barracks 268 of W.W.I Veterans of the W.W.I Veterans Auxiliary; Bronson Cutting Post 3294 V.F.W.; V.F.W. Auxiliary; Chapter 16 of the Roosevelt County Disabled American Veterans; the El Portal Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; and the New Mexico American Revolution Bicenntennial Commission.
