    Description: 
    The west facade of the City of Coral Gables Public Safety Building is adorned with the heads of two firemen and the faces of a typical family that they are charged with protecting. The firemen wear fire helmets. The faces of family members include a father, a mother, a baby, a child, a dog, and a cat. At the foot of the building, flanking the entrances, are firemen's empty boots. On the south side of the building, the lintel is supported by a row of pelicans.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was a project of the Works Progress Administration. The architect for the project was Phineas Paist. The boots were created by G.H. Lyne Foundry of Miami. The Old Police and Fire Station building has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior. A plaque on the building reads: POLICE AND FIRE STATION/BUILT 1939/HAS BEEN PLACED ON THE/NATIONAL REGISTER/OF HISTORIC PLACES/BY THE UNITED STATES/DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR.
