    Description: 
    A stone figure of a Civil War soldier stands atop a stone shaft. The shaft is adorned with a seal depicting crossed flags and sabres, a cartridge box and a laurel wreath. Above this is the Massachusetts state seal. The monument is surrounded by a wrought iron fence.

    Remarks: 
    The monument was erected in memory of the soldiers from Deerfield who were killed during the Civil War. The cost of the monument was $4,000. IAS files contain a list of the names inscribed on the shaft and an excerpt from George Sheldon's "History of Deerfield," 1896, vol. II, pg. 862-863.
